Hybrid Parallel-in-Time-and-Space Transient Stability Simulation of Large-Scale AC/DC Grids

The increasing complexity of modern AC/DC power systems poses a significant challenge to fast solution large-scale transient stability simulation problems. This paper proposes the hybrid parallel-in-time-and-space (PiT+PiS) on CPU-GPU platform thoroughly exploit parallelism from time and spatial perspectives, thereby fully utilizing parallel processing hardware. respective electromechanical electromagnetic aspects AC DC grids demand combination (TS) (EMT) reflect both system-level equipment-level transients. TS is performed GPUs in co-simulation, while Parareal parallel-in-time (PiT) scheduling EMT are conducted CPUs. Therefore, heterogeneous scheme can utilize asynchronous computing features offset data transfer latency between different processors. Higher scalability extensibility than GPU-only dynamic design achieved by concurrent GPU streams for coarse-grid fine-grid computation. A synthetic grid based IEEE-118 Bus CIGRÉ DCS2 showed good accuracy compared commercial TSAT software, speedup 165 with 48 192 201-Level detail-modeled MMCs. Furthermore, proposed method also applicable multi-GPU implementation where it demonstrates decent efficacy.
